Coal Loader Cafe at Waverton is located at the Centre of Sustainability in the former mechanics workshop, a heritage sandstone building. The area was used until 1992 to load coal transported from Newcastle destined for other parts of Australia. The cafe enjoys magnificent water views overlooking Balls Head Bay and Berry Island.

Coal Loader Cafe uses sustainable and locally sourced produce and has a seasonally changing menu using free range eggs and Australian wood smoked bacon. All of the delicious cakes, slices and sauces are made lovingly in their kitchen. All the coffee is freshly roasted and blended especially for the cafe by Adore. It is a licensed premises serving a selection of Australian wine, beer and cider.

Access to the cafe is level and disabled parking can be found outside on Balls Head Drive.

Functions are able to be held at the cafe and on site catering is available for workshops held at the Centre of Sustainability.

As part of their ecofriendly approach, waste from the cafe kitchen is turned into compost on site within 48 hours and given back to the community. Another community initiative adopted by the cafe is to swap  home grown produce brought in by customers for cups of coffee.
